The new IWK Teen Mental Health and Additions clinic located at Mic Mac Mall, aims to provide patients with a safe and comfortable space to seek support through their mental health and wellness journey. The design concept aims to emphasize the fundamental principles of protection and care, creating a nurturing environment for young individuals.

Drawing inspiration from the serene beauty of nature, the design team carefully chose a colour palette consisting of earthy tones that reflect the calming and grounding elements found in nature. The colours were specifically selected for their ability to evoke feelings of safety, stability and serenity, enveloping visitors in an atmosphere that promotes healing and emotional wellbeing.
By utilizing a range of soft colours, including gentle greens, sandy yellows, serene blues, joyous terracotta and soothing lilacs the design infuses the space with a sense of comfort, harmony and connection. Offices are designed close to the reception area with finishes applied in colour blocks to assist in wayfinding
The floor plan is designed to allow natural light to flood into the facilities while ensuring privacy needs are met throughout the space. Directional wayfinding is achieved through floor finish transitions and colour blocking associated with departmental functions.
The incorporation of natural materials plays a pivotal role in establishing a strong connection to the earth and fosters a sense of grounding within the space. Wood finishes, stone accents, and natural textiles are thoughtfully chosen to add warmth, authenticity and tactile comfort.
The design includes biophilic design principles introducing indoor moss, and nature inspired elements that bring the power of healing indoors into all spaces within the clinic.
